Founded by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada and christened Bacatá was Alexander Von Humboldt who called it the "Athens of America", accentuated by the cultural level of its population. Bogotá was the birthplace of cultural movements, and political scientists. There began the famous Botanical Expedition and built the first astronomical observatory in the Americas, among many other events that earned the capital a clear recognition in the cultural field.

The rapid growth of the city evolved so rapidly in the last decade. So much so that Bogotá was designated the Ibero-American Capital Culture 2007, awarded by the UCCI (Union of Capital Cities in Ibero-America), and in the same year was the first Latin American city chosen by UNESCO as World Book Capital.

Bogotá, whose traditional inhabitants are recognized with the adjective of cops and younger as rollers, is central arrival of settlers from all regions of Colombia and tourists from all countries of the world. Theater
Bogotá became the seat of the most important theater festival in the world: The Iberoamerican Theater Festival, which is held every two years, bringing together artists from around the world.
